Case study :: thisisthecoast (Sunshine Coast, BC)

Our approach.  We worked with a team of community leaders and local digital creatives to deliver a non-traditional approach for newcomer attraction targeted at the growing millennial demographic seeking a new life outside the big city. Recent and potential newcomers set the campaign focus. The community told the story. We built the digital platform. We iteratively measured the digital reach and focused the campaign.

The idea was to use social media to “tell the story of daily life on the Sunshine Coast; to give an authentic take on the Coast lifestyle, and engage the lower coast communities.” – Coast Reporter newspaper March 3, 2016 http://is.gd/TAhHzg

Apparently it worked. The community got behind thisisthecoast.ca with creative contributions of their personal stories and professional work. CBC Radio described the campaign as a ‘unique take on life’.

The results are in. The pilot campaign was viewed by 4000+ people across Canada and beyond. Over the 3 month pilot, the campaign started 50 direct personal conversations between potential newcomers and local residents who shared similar interests. 4 families cite the campaign as influencing their relocation decision. Campaign backers and recent newcomers describe the campaign as a community led economic development success story.
