This site was originally done by the owner, Bill Akers, using GoDaddy’s free site builder software. Bill did a great job as a novice, but the site was not ranking in Google and was thin on information for Google to crawl, and needed a few design tweaks for a more professional appearance. He had a small budget and had not had good success with other web designers who took a stab at improving things.
The site got a thorough going over – titles, h1/h2 tags, hierarchy of content, meta descriptions, image alt tags, and tidying of design elements (hosting-supplied web builders are notorious for terrible design control). Now we know the site is well-optimized – we resubmitted it to Google and are awaiting the next crawl to see how rankings improve in a somewhat competitive category.
Next was to claim, verify and complete the Google Business Listing. I also set up a Gmail account for Bill that I would have access to so I could manage all the steps of the processes with Google Business and other directories and sites I found for Akers Home Inspections to be listed in. This meant Bill could concentrate on his work while I managed everything independently and would not require access to his originating email account, a security factor important to most business owners.
Within one day the Google Business listing was trending in the top 3 of the results for Campbell River Home Inspector and Courtenay Home Inspector. This is a quick and critical strategy for Google rankings, especially when categories are competitive.
I then researched web directories and sites that listed other home inspectors and on Bill’s behalf submitted his business information and managed the verification processes. I also collected all of the necessary paperwork for application into the Better Business Bureau and filled in everything I could so he could complete the application to become a recommended and listed BBB business.
This was all completed in 7 hours.
